Raised in Mobile, Alabama, he completed high school at John S. Shaw. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of South Alabama in 1987. Brian pursued his legal education at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, graduating in 1990 and gaining admission to the Alabama Bar the same year.
He is a member of both the Alabama State Bar Association and the Baldwin County Bar Association. In addition to his legal practice, he serves as an adjunct professor at the Mobile campus of Faulkner University, where he teaches Business Law and has also taught in the Criminal Justice and Paralegal Studies programs.
