Derek Drennan

Derek Drennan has dedicated over two decades to defending clients against criminal charges in Bessemer, Alabama. His legal practice is centered on protecting individuals accused of various crimes, from minor offenses to serious allegations. Known for challenging government actions that threaten his clients' freedoms and properties, Drennan is committed to justice at every level.

Drennan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia and earned his law degree from the Cumberland School of Law in May 1996. He was admitted to the State of Alabama bar in September of the same year. During law school, he clerked for Doug Jones, who later became the United States Legal Counsel for the Northern District of Alabama and a U.S. Senator.

After graduation, Drennan began his legal career with a clerkship at Richard S. Jaffe, P.C., eventually becoming an associate. In 2011, he co-founded the firm Jaffe and Drennan, P.C. His experience extends to practicing in Federal, State, and Municipal Courts, representing clients under investigation or facing charges in all areas of criminal defense.

Drennan's expertise includes complex white-collar crime litigation, handling cases involving embezzlement, honest services fraud, and public corruption. He has achieved success in both trial and appellate courts, including the Alabama Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. His notable victories include acquittals in cases ranging from assault and arson to capital murder, as well as successful motions to suppress evidence leading to dismissals.
