Ali Makoui

Ali Makoui, a registered patent attorney and member of the State Bar of California, focuses on patent and trademark prosecution. He collaborates closely with clients to protect and grow their intellectual property assets through strategic filings. Known for his responsiveness and approachability, Ali is dedicated to guiding clients through complex IP challenges efficiently.

Ali's practice spans a diverse array of technologies, including software, electronics, telecommunications, semiconductors, Internet of Things (IoT), medical devices, smartphone applications, data encryption, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, virtualization, eCommerce, clean energy technologies, consumer electronics, image and signal processing, and mechanical systems. He meticulously prepares patent and trademark applications, considering potential enforcement or litigation.

In addition to filing original U.S. applications, Ali supports international clients in submitting U.S. patent and trademark applications based on foreign filings under the PCT and Madrid Protocol. He frequently prepares office action responses and appeal briefs for the USPTO and has experience with patent offices in jurisdictions such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Patent Office, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Before entering the legal field, Ali gained valuable experience in the aerospace, medical instrumentation, entertainment, and banking industries, where he worked in software and electronics design, development, and management. This diverse industry experience provides him with a practical perspective when advising clients on IP strategies.

Ali holds a J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles; a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA; and an M.S.E.E. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
