Todd Means

Todd Means embarked on his legal career with a strong desire to advocate for those who often go unheard. His journey began at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where he discovered his passion for defending the constitutional rights of the accused. During his time at Loyola, Todd interned at the Ventura County Public Defender’s Office, contributed to the Juvenile Innocence and Fair Sentencing Clinic, and served as a Judicial Extern for the Second District of the California Court of Appeal.

After earning his J.D., Todd joined the Ventura County Public Defender's Office as a Deputy Public Defender. In this role, he encountered a wide range of criminal allegations, gaining invaluable experience in defending clients against charges from the Penal Code to the Fish and Wildlife Code. His dedication to the courtroom is evident in his adeptness at cross-examining witnesses, arguing motions, and advocating for his clients' rights.

Throughout his three-year tenure in Ventura County, Todd managed hundreds of cases annually and achieved a high number of jury trials, second only to Bailey K.F. Means. Unlike some attorneys, Todd embraces litigation writing, recognizing the significance of well-crafted motions and appeals. Notably, a case he briefed and argued is currently awaiting a decision from the California Court of Appeal.

After his time as a Deputy Public Defender, Todd transitioned to a role as a State Bar Prosecutor with the Office of the Chief Trial Counsel in Los Angeles. While he valued his work in safeguarding the public from unethical attorney misconduct, his passion for client advocacy ultimately led him back to criminal defense.
