Stephen Edward Berken

Stephen E. Berken is a distinguished partner at Berken Cloyes, PC, where he focuses on consumer bankruptcy law. He earned his B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from the University of California in 1981, followed by a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law, University of California, in 1984. Admitted to practice on November 1, 1985, Mr. Berken is highly regarded for his expertise in handling Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases, as well as bankruptcy adversary matters.

Mr. Berken serves as the Colorado state chair for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys and is a founding member of the Colorado Consumer Bankruptcy Association. He also established the Colorado Debtors’ Counsel Listserv, a free online resource for debtor's counsel in Colorado. Additionally, he is a board-certified expert in consumer bankruptcy by the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification and serves on the ABI Advisory Board for Colorado.

His dedication to education is evident in his role as the state chair for C.A.R.E. (Credit Abuse Resistance Education). Recognized for his excellence, Mr. Berken was named Bankruptcy Attorney of the Year by 5280 Magazine from 2014 to 2018 and was honored as a Super Lawyer by Thompson Reuters in 2020.
