William Wallace Cochran II

William Wallace Cochran II is a seasoned attorney with more than 50 years of expertise in patent law. He established Cochran Freund & Young LLC in Fort Collins, Colorado. Mr. Cochran's career began with three years as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, followed by five years as a patent agent and attorney with the Office of Naval Research.

Subsequently, Mr. Cochran served as a Senior Patent Attorney at Los Alamos National Laboratory for six years. There, he worked on diverse technologies such as computer technology, electro-quantum mechanics, cryogenic superconductivity, astrophysics, laser fusion, magnetic containment fusion, particle beam weapons, fuel cell technology, and various laser systems.

He is the author of technology licensing agreements published in “Software Transactions” and co-authored the U.S. Trademark Association Treatise on Colorado Trademark Statutes. His extensive publication record includes numerous papers on Intellectual Property Law. As a leading U.S. patent attorney, Mr. Cochran frequently speaks on intellectual property topics.

Mr. Cochran has presented to organizations including the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the Larimer County Bar Association, CLE International, Georgetown University Law School Computer Law Conference, and the Technology Training Corporation. As a patent and IP litigation attorney, he has co-counseled in litigations against major companies like Proctor & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

He has served as an expert witness in several high-profile patent law cases and recently achieved a significant victory at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit concerning color trademarks.
