Jim Nugent

Jim Nugent serves as the lead trial lawyer at the firm in Branford, Connecticut, concentrating on serious accident cases and representing families affected by wrongful death. With over 75 trials to his credit, Jim has managed a diverse range of legal matters such as personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, and wrongful death. His expertise also extends to complex cases involving tractor-trailer crashes, motorcycle accidents, drownings, defamation, and civil rights violations, including Section 1983 cases. Additionally, he has handled cases related to murder, shootings involving police officers, burglary, assault, and theft of firearms.

Jim obtained both his undergraduate and law degrees from The Catholic University of America, earning his bachelor's degree Cum Laude in 1986 and his law degree in 1989. He is a board-certified Civil Trial Advocate, a distinction held by less than four percent of practicing attorneys.

In 1998, Jim graduated from the prestigious Trial Lawyers College and joined its staff the following year. By 2005, he was appointed to the board of directors, where he continues to serve. From 2007 to 2014, Jim was recognized in the Connecticut Super Lawyers® list for Personal Injury. He has also achieved the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest level of ethical standards and legal ability, as rated by peers in the legal community.

Jim's dedication extends beyond the courtroom; he served in the Connecticut Army National Guard for 11 years, reaching the rank of sergeant, and was part of the Connecticut Governors Horse Guard mounted cavalry unit. An avid athlete, Jim has completed numerous marathons and triathlons, including the 2013 Lake Placid Ironman.
