Max Holmes

Max Holmes boasts a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in finance, law, and education. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Finance at the Stern Graduate School of Business at New York University since 1993, where he imparts knowledge on 'Bankruptcy and Reorganization.'

Holmes has held the role of Chief Investment Officer and Lead Portfolio Manager for two major hedge funds, managing assets at peak levels of $2.7 billion and $5.4 billion. His expertise extends to insurance and mutual fund portfolios, with a focus on credit, capital structure arbitrage, distressed debt, and direct lending. His investment strategy encompasses a broad range of securities, including bank debt, DIP loans, and credit default swaps, across diverse sectors such as startups, private equity, and restructurings.

In his executive capacity, Holmes served as Chair and CEO of a life, health, and annuity insurer and reinsurer. Recently, in February 2024, he was appointed by the Creditors Committee of Celsius Network LLC as an independent director of Ionic Digital Inc., a bitcoin mining company.

His extensive background includes roles in investment banking, research, and capital markets at prominent firms like Drexel Burnham Lambert and Salomon Brothers. Since 2015, Holmes has been a Senior Advisor to American Industrial Partners LLC, a private equity firm managing $16 billion in assets.
