Elia Gregory Cerritelli

Gregory Cerritelli, a partner at Knight & Cerritelli, L.L.C., brings extensive experience in criminal defense, police misconduct, and general litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he was a dedicated litigator. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, New York, and the federal District Court (Connecticut).

Attorney Cerritelli is affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Peace Officers Legal Defense Fund. As a Special Public Defender, he is authorized by the Chief Public Defender to represent individuals unable to afford legal counsel, handling cases from Murder to Breach of Peace, including minor traffic offenses. In Federal District Court, he has defended clients against charges like federal narcotics offenses, Social Security fraud, and money laundering.

His background includes serving as a police officer in two municipalities from 1991 to 1997 and as Chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners in Derby from 1997 to 2001. Attorney Cerritelli is also a Magistrate Judge in the Judicial District of New Britain and Middlesex, presiding over small claims and criminal/motor vehicle infractions.

In addition to his legal practice, he is a faculty member at the University of New Haven. There, he teaches criminal law, constitutional law, police civil liability, and evidence to students in both the undergraduate and graduate criminal justice programs. He earned his J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
