Christopher J Smith, a native of Akron, Ohio, completed his high school education at Archbishop Hoban High School. He earned his B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Communications from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating with honors in the top 20% of his class. As a member of the university's football team, he contributed to their success as the 2003 NCAA Division III East Regional Champions, reaching the NCAA Division III Final Four.
