Roger attended the University of Alabama, where he played for the Crimson Tide Football team, and later graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While in Birmingham, he competed in boxing at local, regional, and international levels. Before law school, Roger was invited to join the USA boxing team for international travel but chose to attend the University of Miami, School of Law instead. After earning his law degree, he participated in the Eastern Olympic Trials in 2004, narrowly losing his bout.
