John has served as the Chapter Chair for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Central Florida Chapter, for two terms. He is also the immediate past Chair of the Florida Bar Immigration and Nationality Law Certification Committee. His professional memberships include the Florida Bar and the Federal Bars for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, as well as the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
Previously, John was a Senior Attorney with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In this capacity, he managed a wide range of removal and deportation proceedings, addressing cases with aggravated felonies, drug trafficking, national security, and human rights issues. He also dealt with various forms of deportation and removal relief, including asylum, withholding of removal, and cancellation of removal, among others.
John's role at ICE also involved obtaining Top Secret Clearance and supporting federal and local law enforcement officers on the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). During his six-year tenure, he advanced to Senior Attorney and was responsible for training government attorneys from ICE, Customs and Border Protection (CBP), United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and state prosecutors.
Additionally, John has participated as a panelist and guest speaker at numerous Immigration and Criminal Law events across Florida. He has also provided multiple Continuing Legal Education (CLE) accredited trainings to attorneys.
