Jeremy Akin

Jeremy Akin serves as a Litigation Associate at Johnson Marlowe, LLP, located in Athens, Georgia. He adeptly represents families in construction, zoning, and land use issues related to development projects. Jeremy's academic journey includes graduating cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he founded the Alternative Dispute Resolution Society. His involvement extended to serving as Conference Editor for the Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law and as a Student Ambassador for the Rusk International Law Center. His practical experience was enriched through externships with the Athens-Clarke County Superior Court, Public Defender’s Office, and the Georgia River Basin Center.

Jeremy's accolades include the 2018 Edward J. Henning Memorial ADR Award from the Atlanta Bar Association and the Ellen R. Jordan Award for Outstanding Public Interest Student at Georgia Law. Before joining Johnson Marlowe, he gained valuable experience interning with the Environment Law and Food Law sections at the Coca-Cola Company’s judicial department.

A registered mediator and arbitrator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, Jeremy possesses significant expertise in mediating civil disputes, particularly those involving land claims, in Georgia and East Africa. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Georgia, minoring in African Studies and Vocal Music.

Jeremy's professional contributions include work with the Carter Center’s Conflict Resolution Program, Namati’s Community Land Protection Program, and Landesa’s Corporate Engagement Division. His post-graduate career was marked by nearly four years in Uganda as a Fulbright Research Fellow, where he collaborated with local organizations to explore best practices for mediating customary land disputes and protecting communal lands.
