About William C. Head
William C. Head, affectionately known as "Bubba Head," is a prominent DUI defense attorney in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Georgia in 1973 and earned his law degree from the UGA School of Law in 1976. As of June 2026, he celebrates five decades of legal practice in Georgia. In 1991, he co-authored a national book on DWI vs. DUI, which sold 14,000 copies, becoming the best-selling DUI book in history. Over the past 50 years, he has handled over 6,500 impaired driving cases, primarily focusing on first-offense DUI suits.
Currently, Mr. Head co-authors a comprehensive litigation book on Georgia DUI laws with his two law partners. This extensive legal resource spans more than 1,400 pages and is updated annually. Throughout his career, he has been honored with top ratings from Martindale, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, AVVO, and Best Law Firms in America.
Since 1978, Mr. Head has chaired or co-chaired over 60 continuing legal education seminars for the Georgia Bar. Following the publication of his first national DUI-DWI book, "101 Ways to AVOID a Drunk Driving Conviction" in 1991, he organized the first DUI defense seminar in 1992. In 1995, he collaborated with Lawrence Taylor and Reese I. Joye, Jr. to help establish the National College for DUI Defense and served as a Regent for several years. That same year, he achieved DWI-DUI board certification and self-published "The Georgia DUI Trial Practice Manual," now published by Thomson Reuters and updated annually with Larry Kohn and Cory Yager.
His office manages approximately 160 first-offense DUI cases annually, along with about 40 repeat DUI offenses. However, the practice encompasses a broad range of criminal defense cases, including assault, battery, sex crimes, hit and run in Georgia, child molestation, and shoplifting (retail theft). In August 1996, Mr. Head launched his first website, DrunkDrivingDefense.com, emphasizing the importance of aggressive DUI defense, even for first offenses, as expunction is not possible. The following year, he organized and funded a four-day NHTSA instructor training seminar to enhance the trial skills of criminal defense lawyers.
