Margaret M. O'Connell

Margaret M. O'Connell is a Senior Partner at A. Traub & Associates in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She has extensive experience in family, criminal, traffic, and expungement law. Margaret is recognized as a court-approved Guardian ad litem in DuPage, Kane, and Kendall Counties. She earned her degree from Bradley University in 1986 and graduated from John Marshall Law School in 1991.

Margaret began her legal career as an Assistant State's Lawyer in DuPage County from 1991 to 1996, where she prosecuted cases involving domestic violence, child neglect, felonies, and misdemeanors. From 1996 to 2003, she served as a Senior Assistant Attorney General, working within the Criminal Trials Assistance Bureau for the State of Illinois.

During her time with the Attorney General's office, Margaret was appointed by Attorney General Jim Ryan to the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority Committee, focusing on the Full Faith and Credit of Foreign Orders of Protection and issues related to Abuse, Neglect, and Financial Exploitation of Persons with Disabilities.

Transitioning to private practice in 2003, Margaret has continued to focus on family, criminal defense, and appellate law. Her dedication to her field has been recognized through several accolades, including the Pro Bono Service Award from the DuPage Legal Assistance Foundation in 2015 and 2017, and the Inspirational Woman Award from the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers in 2014. In 2019, Margaret was named to Super Lawyers.
