Ms. Funderburg earned her bachelor of science and juris doctorate from the University of Illinois, where she was awarded the Charles E. Merriam Scholarship. She began her legal career in 1981 at Craig & Craig, a Coles County, Illinois-based law firm, becoming a partner in 1988. Her tenure as Assistant City Legal Counsel for the City of Champaign from 1988 to 1996 provided her with profound insights into municipal law.
In her early career, Ms. Funderburg was recognized with the Young Practice Woman Award by the Coles County Business and Professional Women in 1984. Her community involvement extends to the Coles County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Coles County and Jefferson County Bar Associations, the Mt. Vernon Junior Women's Club, and the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana. Since 1988, she has been an active member of the Champaign County Bar Association, serving on its Board of Governors in 1995.
Currently, Ms. Funderburg is on the Board of Trustees for the Champaign Public Library and presides as President of the Champaign County Humane Society. Outside of her legal commitments, she enjoys reading, traveling, antiquing, and gardening, and volunteers with the Champaign County Humane Society.
