Baku Patel

Baku N. Patel serves as the lead counsel at Patel Law, P.C. in Champaign, Illinois, where he specializes in felony criminal defense and personal injury litigation, including wrongful death cases. Born in 1969 in Baroda, Gujarat, India, he moved to the United States in 1970 with his family.

Mr. Patel completed his undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, earning bachelor's degrees in economics and political science in 1991. He then pursued his legal education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate in 1994.

During law school, Mr. Patel was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Navy's Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) in August 1993. Upon graduation, he served as a JAG Officer, gaining experience as a criminal defense trial lawyer and military prosecutor, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Later, he transitioned to the Naval Reserves, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Following his military service, Mr. Patel joined the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as a trial attorney, focusing on prosecuting anti-trust and consumer fraud cases. He then served as a senior prosecutor in both the Champaign County and Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s offices.

Mr. Patel leverages his extensive legal background to vigorously defend his clients' rights. Supported by a dedicated judicial team, he is committed to providing aggressive representation whether facing state or federal government entities or challenging insurance companies.
