Jay P Kesan

Jay P Kesan combines expertise in both information technology and law as a Professor and H. Ross & Helen Workman Research Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Law. Holding a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a JD summa cum laude from Georgetown University, he has made significant contributions to patent law and policy, with an emphasis on cybersecurity and privacy.

His extensive experience includes serving as a technical expert in numerous patent lawsuits, particularly in fields such as wireless communication, RF, e-commerce, software applications, integrated circuits, microelectronics, and semiconductors. As an inventor, he holds 20 U.S. patents and is actively engaged with start-up technology companies as a board member.

Previously, Jay worked as a research scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. He has been involved in all facets of patent litigation, serving as counsel, technical expert, law expert, Special Master, mediator, and appellate counsel. Notably, he was among the inaugural Thomas A. Edison Distinguished Scholars at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
