Marcia Gerber Cotler

Marcia Gerber Cotler, Principal and Founder of Cotler Law LLC, holds a distinguished Juris Doctor of Law from Georgetown University Law Center, graduating cum laude in 1989. She is certified in mediation through the Center for Conflict Resolution (2002) and DePaul University College of Law (2004). Ms. Cotler has represented clients from multi-national corporations to individuals in hundreds of cases.

Practicing in the state courts of Cook, Lake, and DuPage County, Illinois, as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Ms. Cotler brings extensive legal expertise. She also serves as an arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois, when needed.

An adjunct faculty member at DePaul University College of Law, Ms. Cotler has taught legal writing and led training on Sexual Harassment Prevention in the Workplace for Fortune 500 companies and non-profits. Her expertise in employment law is frequently sought at continuing legal education seminars. She has contributed scholarly work, including a book chapter on the “Employment-At-Will Doctrine” for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE).

Previously, Ms. Cotler served on the board of the Chicago Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution, reflecting her commitment to conflict resolution and mediation.
