Matthew Shaw

Matthew Shaw graduated Magna Cum Laude from Illinois College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1983 and earned his Juris Doctorate from the Northern Illinois University College of Law in 1986. He became a Licensed Lawyer in Illinois on November 6, 1986. His early career involved roles in general and family law practices, including serving as the Child Support attorney for the Kane County Circuit Court Clerk from 1987 to 1995.

In 1991, Mr. Shaw established his own practice, concentrating on family law. By 2000, he co-founded Shaw, Jacobs & Associates, P.C. in St. Charles, Illinois, focusing on family law issues such as dissolution of marriage, financial disputes, and custody litigation. He has been actively involved in the legal community, serving on the ISBA Family Law Section Council since 1991 and contributing as an author and lecturer.

Mr. Shaw has written articles for the ISBA Family Law newsletter and contributed to the Illinois Family Law Handbook. He has presented at family law seminars nationwide and testified before the Illinois Supreme Court Custody Committee on custody legislation in 2003.

With a strong record in court, Mr. Shaw has represented clients in various family law cases and has served as a Mediator and Guardian ad Litem. He frequently resolves disputes outside of court and has appeared on television and radio discussing family law topics. He volunteers with divorce support groups and supports legal service organizations.

Mr. Shaw has been an attorney presenter for the KIDS (Kids in a Divorcing Society) family court program since 1993 and is the current Chair of the Kane County Family Law Committee.
