Matthew Morris

Matthew Morris leads M.G. Morris Law, P.C., focusing on supporting nonprofits, donors, and benefit corporations in addressing legal issues. Raised in the Midwest, Matthew spent ten years flying helicopters in the Navy before pursuing law. He continued serving in the Navy Reserve for another twenty years.

After law school and an appellate clerkship in Indiana, Matthew began his legal career in an Indianapolis law office, guiding employers through employment-related challenges. His career took an unexpected turn with a year-long assignment in Afghanistan, where he advised the Afghan government on anti-corruption initiatives.

Returning to the U.S., Matthew spent 11 years as an Assistant United States Attorney, engaging in jury trials and appellate arguments. Building relationships with victims and advocacy groups was a highlight of his prosecutorial work. Motivated to enhance legal services for civil society, he asked himself, "what would you do if you weren't afraid?" This led to the creation of a new type of law firm.

M.G. Morris Law, P.C. operates as a mostly virtual and paperless firm, emphasizing agility over traditional structures. Utilizing cutting-edge practice management technology, Matthew scales his efforts efficiently. Inspired by nonprofit lawyers in other states, he has adopted innovative billing models, such as subscription services and flat fees, moving away from the billable hour to enhance value and communication.

Outside of his professional life, Matthew and his wife Amy are committed to philanthropy, actively supporting animal rescue, blood cancer research, and disaster response.
