Roy Dominguez

Roy Dominguez possesses a unique blend of law enforcement and legal expertise, having been elected Lake County Sheriff in 2002, with his tenure beginning on January 1, 2003. Notably, he was the only elected Sheriff of Lake County with a Juris Doctorate, a distinction shared by only seven sheriffs nationwide. His law enforcement career began as an Indiana State Trooper, followed by roles as a Public Defender and Deputy Prosecutor, which laid a strong foundation for his responsibilities as Sheriff. At the Indiana State Police Academy, he earned the Donald Flint Award for graduating first in his class.

Before his legal career, Roy gained valuable experience as an Apprentice Millwright at Inland Steel, which prepared him for academic success. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Indiana University NWI and a Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University.

In the realm of law, Roy's practice areas include Personal Injury, Family Law, Juvenile Law, and Criminal Law. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the Indiana State Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.

Roy has also served in various legal capacities, including as Legal Counsel for the Lake County Assessor's Office, Special Counsel for the Indiana Department of Revenue, Corporate Counsel for the City of East Chicago, and School Corporation Counsel for the River Forest Community School Corporation in Hobart. Additionally, he was the Chairman of the Board and later an Administrative Law Judge for the Indiana Workers' Financial Recovery Board in Indianapolis.
