Tom F. Hirschauer III was born and raised in the Indianapolis area, continuing a family tradition of legal practice in Indiana since 1943. He is a graduate of Carmel High School, Xavier University, and the Ave Maria School of Law.

Tom's legal career began at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office in Indianapolis, where he served as a deputy prosecutor. His work spanned a broad range of cases, including misdemeanors, low-level felonies, and major felony offenses.

In 2011, Tom was appointed to lead the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
