About Tom F. Hirschauer III
Tom F. Hirschauer III was born and raised in the Indianapolis area, continuing a family tradition of legal practice in Indiana since 1943. He is a graduate of Carmel High School, Xavier University, and the Ave Maria School of Law.
Tom's legal career began at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office in Indianapolis, where he served as a deputy prosecutor. His work spanned a broad range of cases, including misdemeanors, low-level felonies, and major felony offenses.
In 2011, Tom was appointed to lead the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. He received specialized training in Crash/Accident Reconstruction from Northwestern University and Forensic Toxicology from Indiana University. During this period, he handled some of Indiana's most complex cases, successfully trying over twenty jury trials and numerous bench trials.
By 2014, Tom was supervising the Asset Forfeiture Division, managing hundreds of civil forfeiture proceedings, including significant cases exceeding $100,000 and some surpassing $1,000,000. He has also provided training for attorneys and law enforcement officers on DUI enforcement, traffic law investigations, and white-collar crime.
Tom's personal experiences, including his own divorce, have deepened his empathy and understanding of family law issues. Currently, he focuses on select criminal and family law matters at Keffer Hirschauer LLP.
