About Brent Cox
Brent Cox has been a dedicated legal professional since 2008, starting his career as a judicial law clerk and staff lawyer for Hon. Jeffrey T. Burdette, Chief Judge of the 28th Judicial Circuit and Chief Regional Circuit Judge in the Cumberland Region. During this time, he handled a wide range of cases, including death penalty disputes, will contests, business litigation, and property claims.
Brent earned his B.A. in English from the University of Kentucky and his J.D. from the Ohio Northern University College of Law. While in law school, he was actively involved in Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and the American Constitution Society. He also served as a teaching and research assistant and was a member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates, winning the 2007 Burke Smith Mock Trial Competition.
Brent is a member of several professional organizations, including the American, Fayette County, and Kentucky Bar Associations, the American Association for Justice, and the Kentucky Justice Association. He serves as Director-at-Large for the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a Barrister in the American Inns of Court (Central Kentucky Inn).
Admitted to practice in the Courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Brent has achieved an AV rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating Survey, the highest rating for ability and ethics.
In recognition of his work, Brent received the 2014 Public Advocate Award from the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy for his conflict representation of indigent defendants. He continues to take conflict cases from multiple DPA trial offices. A native of Lexington, Brent is married to Tara Knapp, and they have twin sons who are currently 11 years old.
