Charles S. McCowan III

Charles S. McCowan III, commonly known as Trey, has been a partner at the Kean Miller Baton Rouge office since 1989. He is a key member of the litigation group, providing legal representation to local, regional, and multinational clients in the energy and petrochemical sectors. His practice areas include complex commercial agreements and legacy site litigation, along with environmental litigation and toxic tort defense. Trey also guides clients on electronic discovery, ensuring compliance with e-discovery protocols, managing electronically stored information (ESI), and advising on information retention and destruction policies.

Trey's legal acumen has earned him recognition in The Best Lawyers in America for 2019 in categories such as Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Natural Resources Law, Oil & Gas Law, and Personal Injury Litigation - Defense. His academic achievements include a B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1986, a J.D., cum laude, from Tulane University Law School in 1989, and a Master's in Environmental Sciences from the LSU School of Coast and Environment in 2010. Trey was awarded the 2009-2010 Sustainable Environment Award by the LSU School of Coast and Environment for his Master's Thesis on the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Louisiana Judicial System.
