About Robert Toale
Robert Toale is the founder of the Law Office of Robert S. Toale, where he dedicates his practice to criminal defense in Southeast Louisiana, handling state, federal, and juvenile cases. Over his career, he has conducted more than 100 jury trials and represented over 5,000 clients. His dedication to the legal community is evident through his long-standing membership and leadership roles in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers (LACDL). Since joining NACDL in 1986, Mr. Toale has served as Vice Chair of the Public Defendant Committee and contributed to the Budget and Death Penalty Committees. At LACDL, he was President-Elect in December 2012 and President in December 2013, advocating for the abolition of capital punishment and improved funding for indigent defense programs.
Mr. Toale is a graduate of Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College and the National Criminal Defense College's Trial Practice Institute. He has enhanced his trial skills with training from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. His expertise is further recognized by his certification as Capital Lead Trial Counsel by the Louisiana Public Defender Board. Notably, he remained in New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina to try the first 12-person jury trial in Orleans Parish.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Toale actively contributes to his community as the Parliamentarian of the Alliance for Good Government and serves on the board of the Louisiana Justice PAC. He is also involved with the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws as a legal committee member. His insights have been featured by media outlets such as CBS News, Newsweek, the Times-Picayune, the ABA Journal, and the National Law Journal.
