Gill Cochran

Gill Cochran is the senior member of Cochran and Chhabra, LLC, a law firm he established after a seven-year tenure with the public defender's office. His practice is centered on criminal defense and serious traffic matters, where he applies his extensive legal expertise.

Before embarking on his legal career, Mr. Cochran served as a rifle platoon leader in Vietnam. His combat experiences led him to pursue law, which he found more fulfilling. As a recovering alcoholic, he possesses a unique understanding of addiction issues, enabling him to connect with clients on a deeper level and craft comprehensive solutions.

An amateur magician, Mr. Cochran often uses magic tricks to put clients at ease, demonstrating the importance of precision and practice both in magic and in the courtroom. He is known for his significant legal contributions, including the landmark 1986 case, Brosan v. Cochran, which affirmed First and Fourth Amendment rights concerning breath tests.

Mr. Cochran has been recognized as a Leading Attorney by What's Up Magazine. He has authored insightful legal writings, such as “Nuts & Bolts: The DUI/DWI Case,” published in the Trial Reporter – Journal of the Maryland Association for Justice in 2011, co-authored with Mandeep Chhabra.

Active in the legal community, Mr. Cochran is a member of several professional organizations, including the Maryland State Bar Association, Anne Arundel County Bar Association, Maryland Association for Justice, Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Mr. Cochran holds a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University (1964) and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law (1970), graduating with honors. Residing in Annapolis, Maryland, with his wife Eileen, cat Dusty, and dog Lilly, he actively participates in the Annapolis Yacht Club Regatta Series, often sailing his Hershoff Sloop with his dog.
