John Pontius

John Pontius, founder of Pontius Tax Law, PLLC, operates offices in both Washington, DC, and Rockville, Maryland. He is dedicated to assisting individuals and businesses with serious tax matters, including representation before the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities. His expertise encompasses a wide range of complex tax issues such as FBAR examinations, offshore disclosures, FATCA, tax planning, unfiled tax returns, release of tax liens and levies, trust fund recovery penalty, IRS and state audit examinations, Appeals, penalty abatement, U.S. Tax Court litigation, and defense against tax fraud and tax evasion.

Prior to establishing his firm in 2017, Mr. Pontius gained valuable experience over seven years at tax controversy firms in Maryland and within the international corporate tax group at KPMG LLP in Virginia. His legal career commenced in 2006 as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army, where he developed a strong foundation in legal practice.
