About Kathryn Batey
Kathryn Batey has dedicated her entire legal career to defending clients within the justice system. After earning her degree from American University’s Washington College of Law in 2012, she joined the Maryland Office of the Public Defender. Her dedication and skill led to her promotion as Deputy District Public Defender for Southern Maryland. In 2023, Kathryn embarked on a new venture by establishing her own firm, Safe Harbor Criminal Defense, and subsequently co-founded Southern Maryland Criminal Defense.
Kathryn is also admitted to the bar in Virginia, where she has practiced criminal defense in the Virginia General District Court, Circuit Courts, and the federal Eastern District of Virginia. Her extensive experience includes handling a wide range of criminal cases before both judges and juries, consistently striving to achieve the best outcomes for her clients.
In addition to her practice, Kathryn served as an adjunct professor in Legal Rhetoric and Writing at American University’s Washington College of Law in 2023. She resides in Alexandria, VA, with her two children and enjoys marathon running, cross-stitching, and exploring television.
