Jesse Young

Jesse Young serves as a Senior Shareholder at Sommers Schwartz, where he expertly handles serious employment disputes. His practice encompasses severance negotiations, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblowing activity, employment contracts, terminations, and compliance issues. Jesse represents both individuals and businesses.

As a founding member of the firm's national wage-and-hour practice, Jesse has participated in numerous wage-and-hour lawsuits and arbitrations, focusing on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and similar state regulations. He advises clients nationwide on matters including minimum wage and overtime payment, employee classification, off-the-clock work, meal breaks, donning and doffing protective equipment, and recordkeeping across diverse industries.

Jesse is a Chapter Editor of the authoritative treatise, “The Fair Labor Standards Act,” and frequently speaks on wage-and-hour issues at The Institute of Continuing Legal Education (Michigan), the American Association for Justice, and other national legal forums.

In his career, Jesse has held leadership roles in numerous complex class actions nationwide, achieving multi-million dollar recoveries for thousands of employees. His dynamic practice has taken him across the country, advocating for his clients.

Jesse has briefed and argued cases in Michigan state courts, the Michigan Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and several federal U.S. District Courts nationwide. He has also attended multiple arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court.
