About Erik S.H. Wallen
Erik S.H. Wallen earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1985 and his Juris Doctor from the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in 1989. Upon his admission to the Michigan Bar in 1989, Erik began his career as an Associate at the law firm of Patterson Gruber Kennedy Gill and Milster in Bay City, Michigan, concentrating on criminal defense and general civil litigation. He became a Partner in 1997, focusing on Civil Litigation.
In 2000, Erik joined Kennedy Gill Wallen Rieman and Reyes as a Partner, where he specialized in Personal Injury Litigation, Family Law, and Criminal Defense. After 16 years in private practice, Erik transitioned to the public sector in January 2005, becoming the Chief Assistant Prosecutor at the Midland County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In this role, he managed office operations, oversaw the criminal caseload, and led the attorney staff, prosecuting cases ranging from violent crimes to capital drug offenses.
Erik's dedication to public service was further recognized in December 2013 when he was appointed Midland County Prosecuting Attorney. He managed a broad spectrum of legal responsibilities for Midland until returning to private practice in November 2014 with the law firm of Bock and Wallen PLC.
Erik is actively involved in his community, having served on the Midland County Child Protection Council, the Safe and Sound Child Protection and Advocacy Center Committee, and the 1016 Recovery Care Network Board of Directors, where he held positions as Chairman in 2012 and Vice-Chairman in 2011. He also participates in various sub-committees and has been a member of the Midland County Drug Court since its inception, working to reduce recidivism for substance-abuse related offenses.
Erik has practiced law in the Michigan Tri-City area for over 25 years. He has been married to his college sweetheart, Carrie, for 26 years, and they have two children, Taylor and Garret.
