Patrick Jerome Derkacz hails from Warren, Michigan, where he completed his early education at Warren Mott High School, graduating in 1984. He pursued higher education at Eastern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry in 1988. His career began as an analytical chemist with the Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In 1990, Mr. Derkacz transitioned to law, enrolling at the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University Law School). He graduated with Honors in 1993, having actively participated in the Moot Court Program and excelling as the best Oralist at the Benjamin J. Cardozo competition in New York City.
Mr. Derkacz started his legal career in insurance defense, handling premises and professional liability cases. He then shifted to a plaintiff's firm, focusing on medical malpractice for five years, advocating for those affected by substandard medical care.
In 2006, he co-founded Serafini, Michalowski, Derkacz and Associates with partners Phil Serafini and Jeff Michalowski. Since then, he has concentrated on Disability Insurance claims, assisting clients in securing their benefits. Over the past 12+ years, Mr. Derkacz has managed numerous claims against major insurers such as Cigna, Aetna, The Hartford, MetLife, UNUM, Lincoln Financial, and Madison National.
