Patrick Jerome Derkacz

Patrick Jerome Derkacz, an accomplished attorney in Howell, Michigan, has dedicated his career to disability insurance law. Born and raised in Warren, Michigan, he graduated from Warren Mott High School in 1984, where he was an active member of the football team. He pursued higher education at Eastern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry in 1988. Following his graduation, he worked as an analytical chemist for Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division in Ann Arbor.

In 1990, Mr. Derkacz embarked on his legal journey at the Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University Law School), graduating with Honors in 1993. During law school, he participated in the Moot Court Program and was recognized as the best Oralist at the Benjamin J. Cardozo competition in New York City.

After law school, Mr. Derkacz gained valuable experience working for several firms, focusing on insurance defense in premises and professional liability cases. He later joined a plaintiff’s firm, honing his expertise in medical malpractice cases for five years, advocating for those affected by inadequate medical care.

In 2006, he co-founded Serafini, Michalowski, Derkacz and Associates, where he shifted his focus to disability insurance claims. Over the past 12 years, Mr. Derkacz has successfully managed hundreds of claims against major insurance companies, including Cigna, Aetna, The Hartford, MetLife, UNUM, Lincoln Financial, and Madison National.
