Babak Akhlaghi

Babak Akhlaghi, a registered patent attorney, leads NovoTech Patent Firm in Washington, D.C., offering extensive patent services both domestically and internationally. He is well-known as the co-author of the annually updated Patent Applications Handbook by West Publications, a key resource for industry professionals. In addition to his legal practice, Babak is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, where he instructs on the legal facets of entrepreneurship with a focus on intellectual property and patents.

His practice encompasses patent preparation and prosecution in fields such as electrical engineering and computer science, covering technologies like AI, machine learning, medical devices, semiconductors, and mobile applications. Babak also provides counsel on licensing, validity, enforceability, infringement, and patent reexaminations.

Previously, Babak was a Partner at McDermott Will & Emery and an Associate at Fish & Richardson, both in Washington, D.C. He began his technical career as a radio frequency technician.

Babak earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, graduating at the top of his class. During law school, he contributed as an article editor for the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, D.C., and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
