About Steven N Eckert
Steven N Eckert graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering at Mississippi State University. During his time there, he participated in the cooperative education program with Union Carbide Corporation, which later employed him as a production engineer at their facilities in Texas City, Texas, and St. Charles, Louisiana. While working, he pursued his law degree in the evenings at Loyola University’s School of Law in New Orleans, obtaining his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2003.
After law school, Steven launched his legal career with the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office in South Texas as an assistant district attorney. In this role, he evaluated and filed numerous misdemeanor criminal cases and successfully prosecuted various charges, including DWI, theft, assault, and drug possession. His outstanding performance earned him the title of Cameron County’s Misdemeanor Prosecutor of the Year in 2006.
Promoted to handle felony cases, Steven prosecuted complex charges such as aggravated robbery, burglary, drug possession, sexual assault, and murder. His exemplary work led to his recognition as the Felony Prosecutor On The Rise in 2007. Steven also established the county’s first environmental crimes unit, achieving significant indictments, convictions, and community fines for environmental violations.
In 2008, Steven was chosen by the National College of District Attorneys to participate in trial advocacy training at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina.
