About Douglas Day
Douglas Day has been a Montana resident since 2001, relocating to Missoula to attend Law School at the University of Montana. Prior to this, he earned a Bachelor of Science with a double major in biochemistry and cellular biology from the University of California, San Diego. Enchanted by the beauty of Big Sky country, Douglas chose to build his career here.
Following law school, Douglas served as a clerk for the 10th Judicial District Court in Lewistown for a year. He then joined the Office of Public Defender as a Regional Deputy, a role he has held for 11 years, overseeing legal matters for 11 counties in Central Montana. Throughout his tenure, he completed advanced Trial Advocacy courses and earned certification to defend Capital Crimes.
Douglas's exemplary service has been recognized with several awards, including the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Performance and the Montana Department of Administration’s Team of the Year Award in 2007. In 2013, he received the Excellence in Leadership Award from the Montana Office of Public Defender.
A Fellow for the national review of public defense, Douglas is committed to helping others navigate their legal challenges. He is actively involved in his church and community, enjoys playing board games with his four children, reading young adult fiction, and running marathons with his wife. In 2007, his family established a nonprofit for youth fitness in Central Montana, where they coach, manage, and promote wellness activities.
