About Nicholas Owens

Nicholas Owens was born and raised in Montana, specifically in the Bitterroot Valley. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Political Science and International Relations from Carroll College. He then pursued a Juris Doctorate at Gonzaga Law School in Spokane, Washington. During his time at Gonzaga, Nicholas excelled as the Managing Editor of the Gonzaga Law Review and received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Legal Research and Writing. Additionally, he earned the "Best Brief" award in the Linden Cup advocacy competition.

While attending law school, Nicholas gained practical experience by working at a Spokane-based private law firm, focusing on criminal defense and personal injury law. He also clerked for the Washington Court of Appeals and volunteered as a Special Deputy Prosecutor for the Spokane County Attorney's Office.

After graduating, Nicholas returned to Montana and joined Skjelset & Geer in Missoula, where he concentrated on plaintiff's civil litigation and criminal defense. Prior to establishing Trailhead Law, he served as a Deputy County Attorney for Yellowstone County and chaired the Yellowstone County DUI Task Force.

Nicholas is licensed to practice in all Municipal, State, and Federal Courts in Montana.
