About Stephen R. Harris
Stephen R. Harris has been a prominent figure in the Chapter 11 business bankruptcy field for more than four decades in Northern Nevada. His passion for assisting debtors with business challenges began during his teenage years in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the mid-1960s. At the age of 15, he worked for James E. Rogers, Esq., gaining invaluable experience as a law firm runner and maintenance person. This mentorship inspired him to pursue higher education at the University of Southern California and later at the University of San Diego, where he completed his law degree in June 1974.
Upon becoming a licensed attorney in Nevada in September 1974, Stephen worked at Jim Rogers' Las Vegas law firm for around 16 months before moving to Reno, Nevada. There, he joined the Federal Public Defender’s office, honing his courtroom skills and achieving seven criminal jury acquittals out of eight trials over four years.
In August 1976, Stephen embarked on private practice in Reno, where he has since been involved in over 1,000 Chapter 11 reorganization cases, filed more than 5,000 Chapter 7 liquidation claims, and handled between 400 and 500 Chapter 13 wage earner reorganization cases. While primarily representing debtors, he has also served as a trustee for debtors, occasionally representing creditors.
Stephen is committed to providing strategic counsel, advising clients on the best timing for bankruptcy filings or when to avoid them altogether, ensuring the most beneficial outcomes. His dedication to his practice is unwavering, and he remains passionate about his work.
