About Stephen R. Harris
Stephen R. Harris has dedicated over 40 years to practicing law in the Chapter 11 business bankruptcy field in Northern Nevada. His passion for assisting debtors with business challenges began in his teenage years in Las Vegas, Nevada. At fifteen, he worked closely with James E. Rogers, Esq., serving as a law firm runner and maintenance assistant. This experience inspired him to pursue higher education at the University of Southern California, followed by a law degree from the University of San Diego, graduating in June 1974. He became a licensed attorney in Nevada in September 1974.
After working at Jim Rogers' Las Vegas law firm for 16 months, Stephen moved to Reno, Nevada, joining the Federal Public Defender’s office. There, he honed his courtroom skills, achieving seven criminal jury acquittals out of eight trials over approximately four years. In August 1976, he launched his private practice in Reno, where he has remained ever since.
Throughout his career, Stephen has been involved in over 1,000 Chapter 11 business reorganization cases, more than 5,000 Chapter 7 liquidation cases, and between 400 to 500 Chapter 13 wage earner reorganization cases. While primarily representing debtors, he has also served as a trustee, occasionally representing creditors.
Stephen is committed to providing strategic legal advice, counseling clients on the optimal timing for bankruptcy filings when appropriate. His dedication to his work is evident, as he genuinely loves what he does.
