Derek Miller

Derek Miller is a distinguished criminal attorney based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with a robust career spanning over thirteen years as a Deputy Attorney General at the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Criminal Justice. He co-founded Lackey & Miller, LLC after his tenure in public service.

During his time as Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Miller specialized in the Cyber and Financial Crimes Unit and the Office of Securities Fraud and Financial Crimes Prosecution. His focus was on investigating and prosecuting complex financial and white-collar crimes. He successfully secured convictions in trials involving corporate misconduct, theft by deception, tax evasion, identity theft, and money laundering.

Mr. Miller managed cases investigated by prestigious agencies such as the New Jersey State Police, Division of Criminal Justice, Division of Taxation, Motor Vehicle Commission, Social Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. He also directed civil forfeiture cases, overseeing the seizure of over $20 million connected to racketeering, consumer fraud, elder fraud, and money laundering.

His practice spans sixteen of New Jersey’s twenty-one counties, where he has effectively argued appeals and handled a wide range of criminal cases. Mr. Miller is recognized for his contributions to law enforcement training in tax evasion and civil forfeiture. His achievements have earned him accolades, including the Attorney General’s Awards for Excellence in Law Enforcement and Multi-Agency Investigations.

Before his role at the Attorney General's Office, Mr. Miller gained valuable experience through an internship at the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office in Camden County.
