Edward David Smith

E. David Smith, Esq. is the principal of Smith & Associates, based in Clifton, New Jersey. He offers his expertise as outside general counsel to both US and international companies, as well as family enterprises and family offices. His practice focuses on wealth creation and growth, positioning business entities for expansion, and mitigating risks through asset preservation.

A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and Tulane University School of Law, Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Georgia, along with several federal trial and appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States. His legal team at Smith & Associates is proficient in areas such as tax, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, investment agreements, employment, litigation, commercial real estate, and intellectual property.

Mr. Smith is actively involved in several professional organizations. He is a member of the Inn of Transactional Counsel, the Family Office Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Professional Advisory Board of the New York City Family Enterprise Center, the Family Firm Institute, and the Corporate Counsel Section of the State Bar of Georgia.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Smith contributes to the legal community through articles, speeches, and CLE presentations. He has moderated panels on topics such as “Direct Investments in Real Estate and Private Equity” at the New York State Society of CPAs Fifth Annual Family Office Conference, and “The Life Cycle of a Business: From Birth to Afterlife and Beyond — Maximizing Value at Every Step” at the JBiz Expo. He also led a CLE panel on “Family Offices: A to Z About Acting as a Legal Counsel for a Family Office” at the New York County Lawyers Association.
