About Allan Marain
Allan Marain is a seasoned attorney with membership in the New Jersey Bar, allowing him to practice in Municipal Courts, the Superior Court of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Supreme Court. His federal court admissions include the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is also a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Allan is authorized to practice before the United States Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board. His notable career includes serving as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender from 1989 to 1997, where he handled a wide range of cases including theft, drug offenses, burglary, sexual assault, arson, kidnapping, and murder. His assignments took him to the Somerset and Middlesex County offices, where he appeared in court daily.
A dedicated member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Allan has held leadership roles as past chair of both its Criminal Law Section and its Municipal Court Practice Section. In 2006, he delivered a lecture at the Association's Annual Meeting on the topic of Challenging Laboratory Identification of Marijuana in Municipal Court. Recognized for his expertise, Allan has been named one of New Jersey's “Super Lawyers” by Law & Politics Magazine and New Jersey Monthly on six occasions. He is frequently consulted by CNBC and other media outlets for his insights on current legal matters.
Allan's commitment to the reform of marijuana laws is evident through his active participation in the Legal Committee of NORML (National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws). Since 2001, he has attended all of its December legal defense seminars in Key West, Florida, except in 2010 due to a family emergency. He was instrumental in founding NORML-NJ and served as one of its incorporators and Legal Defense Coordinator. Currently, he advises the Board of Directors of the Coalition for Medical Marijuana in New Jersey.
