Jay Harold Bernstein

Jay Harold Bernstein leads the Workers' Compensation practice at Kirsch, Gelband, & Stone in Newark, NJ. He is committed to safeguarding the rights of New Jersey workers injured on the job, emphasizing the importance of statutory mandated healthcare as a fundamental human right. His practice focuses on Emergency Motions for Medical Treatment and Surgery, achieving hundreds of successful court orders for urgent medical needs. Additionally, Jay handles Social Security Disability law and engages in appellate practice, including pro bono criminal constitutional law for the New Jersey Public Defender.

With nearly two decades of legal experience, Jay has been instrumental in representing thousands of injured workers throughout New Jersey. Jay's career includes serving as a legal clerk for the Ministry of Justice in Jerusalem, a legal intern for Congressman Torricelli in the U.S. Congress, and a Legal Aid Attorney in Trenton, NJ, where he represented homeless children and families. He has received commendations for Superior Performance from the Trial Defense Service of the United States Army, JAG Corps, and for Volunteer Service during the First Gulf War from the State of Israel.

As a founding member of the NJ Mass Disaster Legal Response Program, Jay has provided free legal aid to families affected by the 9/11 Terror attack, as well as hurricane and flood victims in the region.
