Nance Schick

Nance Schick is an accomplished employment lawyer and mediator located in New York City. Since 2003, she has successfully managed her firm, Third Ear Conflict Resolution, providing expert legal guidance to employers in New York State and facilitating the resolution of workplace disputes worldwide. Her approach focuses on addressing conflicts proactively to prevent court escalation.

Nance is the author of DIY CONFLICT RESOLUTION: SEVEN CHOICES AND FIVE ACTIONS OF THE MASTERS and is currently working on her second book, UNSUSTAINABLE: WHY OUR WORKPLACES AREN'T WORKING AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. Her career in employment law was sparked by her early experiences in Human Resources and operations management at United Parcel Service, which led her to pursue legal studies.

Her initial career goal was to study law while working in Sport Administration, a field related to her undergraduate degree. However, a lawsuit during her time in the sports industry redirected her focus to law, where she gained practical knowledge of civil procedure both in the courtroom and classroom. This experience also introduced her to the potential of mediation, despite her former employer's absence in the process.

Nance holds certifications in employment and ethno-religious mediation and served as the Main Representative to the United Nations for the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation for two years. She collaborates frequently with journalists on topics such as conflict resolution, mediation, workplace disputes, domestic employment, independent contractors, and trauma-informed management. Additionally, she coaches aspiring mediators through the MediateArt program at Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and various law schools in New York City.
