Nance Schick

Nance Schick has been at the forefront of employment law and mediation in New York City since 2003, managing her firm, Third Ear Conflict Resolution. She specializes in providing legal advice to employers across New York State and mediates workplace conflicts worldwide, focusing on resolving issues before they escalate to litigation.

Her career in employment law was inspired by her previous roles in Human Resources and operations management at United Parcel Service. Initially planning to pursue a career in Sport Administration, supported by her undergraduate degree, her path shifted due to an unexpected lawsuit that coincided with her legal education. As she often reflects, "I learned civil procedure in the courtroom and classroom simultaneously," which also sparked her interest in mediation, despite a former employer's non-participation.

Nance holds certifications in employment and ethno-religious mediation and served as the Main Representative to the United Nations for the International Center for Ethno-Religious Mediation for two years. She is a frequent collaborator with journalists on topics including conflict resolution, mediation, workplace disputes, domestic employment, and trauma-informed management.

In addition to her legal practice, Nance is the author of DIY CONFLICT RESOLUTION: SEVEN CHOICES AND FIVE ACTIONS OF THE MASTERS and is working on her second book, UNSUSTAINABLE: WHY OUR WORKPLACES AREN'T WORKING AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. She also dedicates time to coaching aspiring mediators through the MediateArt program at Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and at law schools throughout New York City.
