About Omari M Wilson
Omari M Wilson has dedicated much of his 19-year legal career to the non-profit public interest sector, offering legal services and technical support to North Carolina’s financially distressed property owners. His work is centered on helping individuals preserve their homes, land, farms, and rural livelihoods. Additionally, Omari has experience in personal injury and business litigation from his time at a small private law firm.
Raised in the historically significant West End community of Mebane, a black community founded by former slaves in Alamance County, Omari has been involved with the West End Revitalization Association (WERA) since high school. This nonprofit, founded by his parents and other community members, addresses critical issues like inadequate water and sewer services, road paving, and failing septic systems, which have impacted the community's environmental and public health.
Inspired by his parents' dedication to community improvement, Omari pursued a legal education, earning his law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio, and a degree in General Psychology from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
Beyond his legal work, Omari contributes to environmental and community causes as a member of the Leadership Team and Board of the NC Climate Justice Collective and serves on Audubon North Carolina's Advisory Board of Directors. A passionate advocate for physical fitness, he became a licensed Zumba instructor in July 2018 and, alongside his brother Ayo, offers Zumba and group dance fitness classes as TwinZIN.
