Joseph J. Kunkel

Joseph J. Kunkel serves as an associate attorney at Luftman, Heck & Associates in Dublin, Ohio, where he focuses on criminal law and OVI / DUI defense. Since joining the firm in June 2013, Joseph has leveraged his extensive background in criminal defense.

Prior to his current role, Joseph worked as an associate lawyer at a Newark, Ohio law firm and gained valuable experience as a law clerk in Columbus, Ohio. His educational journey began at McDonald High School near Youngstown, Ohio, followed by earning his bachelor's degree in Pre-Law and Political Science from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. At OU, he was active in athletics as a member of the varsity men’s Track and Cross Country teams.

Joseph pursued his legal education at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, where he obtained a certificate of achievement in criminal law and won first place in the Burke E. Smith mock trial competition. These accomplishments provided him with a robust foundation in legal research, writing judicial opinions, and courtroom representation of indigent defendants.

During law school, Joseph completed judicial externships in Van Wert and Franklin Counties, alongside public defender internships at both the municipal and federal levels, further honing his practical legal skills.
