Philip Dana Althouse

Philip D. Althouse has been a dedicated legal professional since 1991, currently holding the position of Senior Counsel in the Economic Justice Group at the Courtroom Aid Society of Cleveland. He is renowned for his vigorous representation of Northeast Ohio consumers in state and federal courts, challenging major financial institutions, mortgage companies, home improvement firms, and automobile dealers.

A contributor to legal scholarship, Mr. Althouse authored the chapter on the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act for the Ohio Consumer Law Manual, published by Thomson Reuters from 2010 to 2016. This manual is a key resource for Ohio attorneys and is often referenced in legal proceedings.

In addition to his consumer law expertise, Mr. Althouse is deeply engaged in human rights advocacy. He collaborates with U.S. and international groups to enhance the Inter-American human rights system. His work has led him to appear before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, where he has also conducted training sessions and presentations on human rights law.

Recently, Mr. Althouse was appointed Vice President of the Human Rights Committee of the Inter-American Bar Association/Federation of Lawyers. His academic credentials include an Associate Degree in Nursing from Milwaukee Area Technical College, a B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He holds licenses in all three professions.
