After graduating from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in July 1966, Gary Johnston Dean began his legal career in Pryor, Oklahoma. He joined the practice of renowned trial lawyer Tony Jack Lyons as an Associate, eventually becoming his partner. During this time, he was involved in approximately 39 homicide cases, securing a minimal sentence for only one client.
Notably, Dean defended a groundbreaking murder case in Oklahoma, presenting a defense of "Extreme Domestic Violence." His client, who was accused of shooting her husband in front of over 15 family members, was acquitted and released after nearly a year in jail.
In 1982, Dean established his own practice, focusing on business, corporate, and general law. He served as local counsel for several Fortune 500 companies at the Mid-America Industrial Park. His legal expertise led to his appointment as a Special District Judge for the 12th Judicial District of Oklahoma in January 1999, where he served Rogers, Mayes, and Craig Counties until his retirement in 2010.
