Shawn Michael O'Neil

Shawn Michael O'Neil has been a trusted legal advisor for more than twenty years, serving individuals, businesses, landowners, and public entities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. He has successfully represented hundreds of clients in civil litigation across both state and federal courts. Shawn excels in negotiating settlements on complex and contentious issues and is always ready to proceed to trial if needed. His courtroom experience includes trying cases before juries and judges.

Shawn has dedicated significant time to mentoring less-experienced attorneys in effective trial advocacy. In 2008, he served as an instructor at the Oregon Department of Justice's Trial Academy, and in 2010, he trained Mexican prosecutors through the Conference of Western Attorneys General.

Shawn's career began as a Deputy District Counsel, where he prosecuted felony and misdemeanor cases before transitioning to private practice. He became a partner at the Portland civil litigation firm Mitchell, Lang & Smith. Subsequently, he was appointed Senior Assistant Attorney General by Attorney General Hardy Meyers, serving in the Oregon Department of Justice's Trial Division. Under Attorney General John Kroger's leadership, Shawn was appointed Attorney In Charge of the Civil Litigation Section, overseeing the largest section of the Trial Division and managing jury trial attorneys defending Oregon's institutions in court. He continued to manage a personal caseload in this role.

In 2014, Shawn founded O'Neil Law LLC, maintaining a leadership position under Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum's administration.
